One of our most popular products is the VWR Cold-Air Intake System kit, enabling cold, dense air from outside the engine bay to reach the fuel metering unit more efficiently for the 2.0 ‘TFSI’ K04 engines.
Some people forget that it’s what’s inside a cold-air intake that really matters. Our High-Flow TriFoam triple-layer construction is simply the best filtration material on the market, and is the key to the power gains achieved. Each filter is handmade in the UK.
Developed for use in our Volkswagen Racing cars, the system delivers really impressive airflow gains – as much as 9% higher at peak power than that of the original intake system. By reducing turbo spool by up to 500rpm in some cases through the enhanced efficiency of the system, lightning fast turbo response is guaranteed. In our experience, no other intake kit gives higher gains.
TRIFOAM FILTER -Trifoam filter construction, a triple-layer laminate of open-cell polyurethane foam, which gives an exceptionally high level of filtration = the very same technology as some Formula One engines use.
SIMPLE FITTING -All parts have been developed exclusively for the 2.0 TFSI K04 engine – meaning that fitting is straightforward, and the original mounting points are retained.
POWER GAINS -Efficient filtration and huge filter surface area means power and torque gains support higher power remaps, and can even show an economy improvement.
EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY -Hand-built in the UK, using the highest quality materials and construction.
SOUND QUALITY -You’ll hear the rich induction noise from this race-bred intake as soon as you accelerate hard. However, as a fully-enclosed intake, volume levels are well-contained.
PERFORMANCE
Through keeping intake temperatures as low as possibly, and greatly improving airflow into the engine, more power is produced, turbo lag is reduced and better fuel efficiency is achieved.
Turbocharger spool can drop nearly 500 RPMs, reducing turbo lag and creating faster turbo response.
Our development has shown that a high-flow intake system on the 2.0 TFSI K04 engine really gives worthwhile gains of up to 30bhp on uprated cars = so this intake is best combined with a remap.
Our testing on the VWR Cold Air Intake has given gains of 30bhp on a Stage 2 car, or around 9% more effective peak power compared with the standard factory air box. ?Testing on cars running 300bhp and beyond shows further increased power improvements from the Intake system, as the standard air box and filter reaches and exceeds its airflow limit.
As a race-bred intake system, the rich induction noise is clear as soon as you first accelerate hard. However volume levels are well-contained, and the sound quality is music to the ears of any enthusiastic driver!
DEVELOPMENT
The intake uses a fully-enclosed gloss black-anodised aluminium spinning which contains the high flow triple-layer cone filter. ?Stainless steel or plated screws, nuts and washers are used throughout the kit to enhance both appearance and durability = and of course to enhance the engine bay appearance.
The VWR Cold Air Intake integrates seamlessly with the factory management system to provide the perfect basis for modifying the car.
The silicon hose joining the turbocharger and the intake system features a formed internal lip, resulting in a smooth transition into the turbocharger, and a sophisticated hose clamp allows for continuous clamping pressure around the entire hose. This intake replaces the original factory engine cover.
Our TriFoam triple-layer laminate of open-cell polyurethane foam gives an exceptionally high level of filtration to protect the engine from contaminants in the air down to well below 5 microns, giving the highest level of filtration to protect your engine
All our filters are hand-built in the UK from the highest quality materials available.
The end result of our development is the exact Cold-Air Intake System that we use in our race cars, which also makes for one of the most popular and effective modifications for a road car.

Can I return a product after install?
Once a product has been installed, used or fitted it is no longer returnable.
How long do I have to return a product?
Customers have 7 days inclusive from the day they receive their order to lodge a “Return Request” with ModsDirect. If the return form is approved (notification by email) the item must then be returned within 21 days. All returns must be trackable.
Please note that exchanges, refunds or credits will NOT be processed until the returned product(s) is received by ModsDirect.
Where do items need to be returned to?
After submitting a “Return Request” form, ModsDirect will be in touch via email to confirm details for return.
How do I return items?
All returns must be returned to ModsDirect by courier or post. All returns must be trackable. In some instances, ModsDirect may offer a return label.
What about restocking fees?
All returns will incur a fee of 15%. This is to cover fees incurred by ModsDirect for payment processing and handling. We are at the mercy of paying for services used at our website regardless of whether the order remains completed or reversed.
Who pays for return shipping?
All return shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer. However, if a customer has received the incorrect product, ModsDirect will cover return fees and provide a courier pickup at no cost to the customer.
Exchange, Credit or Refund?
If a customer requests a return, they may be eligible for either an exchange, credit or refund based on the nature of the return and product availability. If refunding, moneys will be returned to the customer via the original payment gateway used at checkout.
Can I drop a return off to ModsDirect?
Sorry, no in-store return option is presently available.
I damaged the packaging during unboxing, can I still return?
Unfortunately not. All packing materials must be in resalable condition for a return. Some minor damages such as a neat cut of a package seal may still be eligible for return. Please include a photo of the packaging with your Return Request form.
