Nissan 350Z Coilover Buyer’s Guide: Best Suspension Setup Explained

If you’ve ever driven a stock Nissan 350Z, you’ll know two things:

  1. They look way better slammed.

  2. They roll like a small boat in a light breeze.

Hi, I’m Tony! And while my Z33 is no longer the “stock boat” Nissan gave us, it’s taken us a lot of trial, error, and late nights under the car to get the suspension properly dialed in. This means going through tonnes of setup changes and part swaps to get the car just right.

So, here’s a peek into my own setup and why it works. Whether you're into street driveability or drift chaos, I think this setup will be right for you.

My Setup in a Nutshell

Why DGR RC Coilovers?

I went with DGR’s Racing Competition series because they’re not just another “drop your ride height and pray” setup. They’ve got:

  • Rebound and compression adjustment as standard (so you can tune for smooth sweepers or snappy transitions).
  • Beefy build quality — they’ve taken my car’s abuse on drift days without flinching. I'm talking Raleigh dirt drops and headbutting Trent's door...
  • Track-ready stiffness, but still manageable on a Maccas run (for those of you still lucky enough to have rego).

Think of them as the middle ground between daily comfort and “my spine has left the chat.”

We've got a number of setups and configurations for the Z33 and Z34 (we didn't forget about our VVEL homies) that are sure to meet your needs, and we've run these coilovers competitively for years.

So let's talk about that!

  • Street Series (ST) – Perfect for daily drivers who want less “Titanic body roll” and more stance-without-the-chiropractor-bills. Rubber top mounts, lighter springs and dampers but still fully adjustable with a large damping and height range adjustment.
  • Racing Series (RC) – Stiffer than your morning coffee. Built for track days, time attack, and making your mates in stock Zeds cry. Also fully adjustable, but with pillowball top mounts (this is a good thing) and stronger springs and dampers.
  • Digressive Series (DR) – Fancy damping curves = big brain engineering. Plush on the streets, aggressive when you flick it sideways. Adjusts damping force along the speed range! Some pretty high tech gear in this setup!
  • 2 Way Series (DCS-2) – Full nerd mode. Independent rebound & compression adjustments so you can spend more time fiddling with clickers than actually driving. All the good gear from the RC series is still included!

If you’re chasing the best coilover setup for the 350Z, you don’t just throw in springs and hope for the best. Start with quality coilovers (I’ll obviously vouch for DGR), add adjustable arms so you can fine-tune geometry, and don’t forget the reinforcements like diff braces that stop the whole thing from falling apart.

It’s the difference between a Z that fights you through every corner, and one that feels like an extension of your right foot.

And hey, if you want to skip the late-night suspension research and just build it right the first time. ModsDirect has you covered.
